Peace of Augsburg

This agreement, which aimed to end the conflicts between Catholics and Protestants (particularly Lutherans), recognized the principle that each prince could determine the denomination of his own territories. Although the peace legally acknowledged the religious division in Germany, it could not fully resolve the problems and did not entirely forestall later tensions.
