This is the battle considered to have taken place around 252, on the eastern frontier of Rome, between the Sasanian Empire and Roman forces near Barbalissos (on the banks of the Euphrates, in present-day Syria).

The sources report that the Roman army suffered a heavy defeat during the campaigns of Shapur I, and that the cities in Syria subsequently became exposed to Sasanian attacks. The event is one of the indications of Roman weakness on the eastern front in the third century.
