The Congress of Berlin, convened in 1878, revised the terms of the Treaty of San Stefano signed after the Ottoman-Russian War of 1877-1878, in line with the interests of the great European powers.

At the congress, hosted by Otto von Bismarck, the political map of the Balkans was redrawn; the status of some Balkan states changed and Ottoman territorial losses were curtailed. The congress is a turning point with respect to the balance of power of the period.
