Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

1918 CE · Brest-Litovsk · political

The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, signed in 1918, brought about the withdrawal of post-revolutionary Soviet Russia from the First World War.

Through this treaty with Germany and its allies, Russia exited the war by making heavy concessions of territory and resources. The resulting end of the Eastern Front allowed Germany to shift part of its forces to the Western Front. The terms of the treaty later lost their validity as the general course of the war changed.
