Transition to Presidential System

2018 CE · Türkiye · political

Turkey effectively transitioned to the presidential system of government following the presidential and parliamentary elections held in 2018.

In the new system, based on the constitutional amendments adopted in the 2017 referendum, the office of prime minister was abolished, executive authority was concentrated in the president, and ministers came to be appointed by the president. This transition represents the transformation of Turkey's administrative and political structure from a parliamentary system to a presidential-style model.
