Al-Farabi, who lived in the 10th century, was a thinker who produced comprehensive works on philosophy, logic, music, and politics.

Because of his interpretation and development of the ideas of Aristotle and Plato, he was called the 'Second Teacher' (al-Mu'allim al-Thani) after Aristotle. His views on the virtuous society and his work in logic left a profound influence on the Islamic philosophical tradition.
