In the year 1187, near Hattin in present-day Palestine, the Ayyubid army under the command of Saladin faced the Crusader forces of the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

The Crusader army, having suffered heavy losses due to thirst and encirclement, was severely defeated. This victory paved the way for the capture of Jerusalem shortly afterward and for the significant weakening of the Crusader presence in the region.
