The Holocaust (Shoah) refers to the systematic genocide carried out against the Jews of Europe by Nazi Germany and its collaborators during the Second World War.

In the process during which the mass killings intensified from 1941 onward, approximately six million Jews were killed through concentration and extermination camps, shootings, and other methods. Roma, the disabled, and various groups were also targeted. The Holocaust is regarded as one of the greatest crimes against humanity of the 20th century.
