Establishment of the State of Israel

1948 CE · Tel Aviv · founding

On 14 May 1948, with the end of British mandate rule, the establishment of the State of Israel was proclaimed.

The founding of the state immediately led to war with the neighboring Arab states. This process resulted in the displacement of the greater part of the Arab population living in the region and is referred to by Palestinians as the Nakba. The founding of Israel became one of the starting points of the Israeli-Palestinian and Israeli-Arab disputes in the Middle East that continue to the present day.
