Thanks to this regulation, adopted on 5 December 1934, Turkish women became able both to cast votes and to stand as candidates in general elections. In the 1935 general elections, numerous women members entered the parliament. This right is considered noteworthy in that women obtained the right to vote and to be elected earlier than in many European countries.
