Mongol Invasions of Japan

1274 CE · military

In 1274, Kublai Khan, the founder of the Yuan Dynasty, launched a naval expedition targeting Japan.

Although the fleet reached the Japanese islands, the expedition did not result in a lasting conquest; factors such as storms and resistance led to a withdrawal. The second expedition in 1281 also failed, and Japan was spared invasion.
