Treaty of Lausanne

1923 CE · diplomatic

The Treaty of Lausanne was a peace treaty signed in 1923 in the Swiss city of Lausanne between Turkey and the Entente Powers.

Concluded as a result of negotiations held after the War of Independence was won, the treaty largely determined the borders and international status of the new Turkish state. Lausanne replaced the previously signed Treaty of Sèvres, which had not entered into force, and Turkey's independence was recognized internationally. Lausanne is one of the founding documents of modern Turkey.
