Division of the Mongol Empire

1260 CE · Karakurum · political

Following the death of the Great Khan Möngke in 1259, the Mongol Empire entered a process of effectively breaking apart into mutually independent fragments owing to disputes over succession.

Separate administrations emerged, such as the Yuan Dynasty, the Ilkhanate, the Golden Horde, and the Chagatai Khanate. Thus the unity governed from a single center began to dissolve.
