Napoleon’s Coup of 18 Brumaire

As a result of this coup, which put an end to the rule of the Directory, the Consulate regime was established, and Napoleon assumed de facto government as First Consul. The event is seen as the end of the turbulent period of the French Revolution and the beginning of Napoleon's increasingly personal power. This process opened the way to Napoleon's proclaiming himself emperor a few years later.
