The Medo-Babylonian coalition (Cyaxares and Nabopolassar) besieged and conquered Nineveh.

This marked the end of the Assyrian Empire. The Chronicle of Nabopolassar (BM 21901) records the event: "A great siege... the city was reduced to ruins." The Book of Nahum also describes the destruction of Nineveh.
