Oslo Accords

1993 CE · Orta Doğu · diplomatic

The Oslo Accords are the first direct agreements reached between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as a result of secret negotiations in 1993.

Following the negotiations conducted under the hosting of Norway, the Declaration of Principles was signed. The agreement provided for mutual recognition and the transition to Palestinian self-government in the West Bank and Gaza. It was regarded as an important step toward a two-sided solution; however, the final status issues were left to subsequent negotiations.
