The Peloponnesian Wars were a long and grueling series of conflicts in ancient Greece between the Delian League led by Athens and the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta.

The war, which lasted for years, deeply divided the Greek world and caused great destruction. In the end Sparta gained the upper hand; however, the war weakened the power of the Greek city-states and laid the ground for long-term changes in the region's political balance.
