The Battle of Plataea took place in 479 BCE near Plataea in central Greece, between the alliance formed by the Greek city-states and the land army of the Persian Empire.

This land victory won by the Greek alliance is regarded as one of the turning points that, following the naval Battle of Salamis, largely ended the Persian land threat in the Greco-Persian Wars.
