The battle fought in 1444 at Varna on the Black Sea coast between the Ottoman army and the Crusader army composed of various European powers, foremost among them Hungary and Poland.

It ended in the victory of the Ottoman army under the leadership of Murad II; Władysław, the King of Poland-Hungary and one of the commanders of the Crusader army, died in the battle.
